Life WILL Give You Lemons…
The graduating seniors were SHOCKED! On June 3 Chief Justice John Roberts gave the commencement address no one expected. All present had gathered to hear what everyone expected to be a fairly typical commencement address. What they heard was antything but.
Chief Justice Roberts delivered the 2017 commencement speech at the Cardigan Mountain School graduation ceremony in Canaan, New Hampshire. As you listen to his insightful remarks, I hope they encourage you to walk through the adversity in your life that is sure to come. The Chief Justice did not draw his wisdom from the pages of scripture, but it was true wisdom none the less.
For biblical insight into passing through the fires of life, we need to turn to the Apostle Paul as he writes in 2 Corinthians 4:8-11:
“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body.”
Jesus put it this way ……
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33)
Whether your inclination is to apply Chief Justice Roberts’ advice, Paul’s or Jesus’ you may be certain of one thing — your life will have pain and struggles.
As you go through them — as you certainly will — lean on Christ to find meaning in your tribulation. Make the effort to learn the lessons that life’s challenges can teach you.
Life WILL give you lemons. Count on it.
The choice of whether or not to make lemonade is in your hands.
Christ will give you the power to overcome if you turn to Him.
